    A Study of Comments on the Ming Scholar YANG Shen by General Catalogof A Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature

    • General Catalog of A Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature is a classic work of ancient Chinese bibliography. And It is an important part of A Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature as well as the generalization of ancient books of China and Chinese culture. As a Sichuan scholar in Ming Dynasty, YANG Shen was the founder of the textual research and was criticized by the officials who compiled the great work. They pointed out that his works had their strengths and flaws as well and his academic activities were only to attract people's eyeballs and were far from being orthodox. These officials revealed YANG's academic origin and praised him for his emphasis on wide range of learning in his research. Through sorting out the comments on YANG in this catalog, this paper has stated the view that the textual research in Qing period originated from the mid and late Ming Dynasty.
