A New Interpretation of “Four Formations and Three Usages”of English Words

Word formation mainly includes affixation, acronymy, abbreviation, compounding, conversion and etc. For a long time, the scholars have thought that these ways of forming words are in the same position, but in fact, they are not. The affixation, back formation and conversion belong to the word usages instead of word formation. Hence, we get the new idea “four formations and three usages”.
