Who Plants the Crops for Us in the Mountainous Regions——A survey of and reflection into the agricultural population in the rural area of Yunlian County in Sichuan

he problem of food plays a vital role in the national security and stability of a country. Taking the Yunlian as a sample, an analysis is made of the issues like who is planting the crops, who is willing to plant the crops, who is equipped with the planting skills and who can be relied on to plant the crops. The reasons that lead to the current dilemma include: to work in the cities as a laborer can rid farmers of poverty; planting crops is painstaking and is of poor economic return with a costly investment. And some counter-measures were put forth in the hope of providing some reference for problem-solving and rousing government's attention in this regard.
