A Brief Study of WANG Nian-sun’s Notes to Reading

Notes to Reading by WANG Nian-sun was the great work of the Chinese exegetics in Qing Dynasty. The high development of textual research and notes was the accumulation of writing experience of the past as well as the result of academic influence of the Dynasty. The book has three aspects of content: corrections, clarification of lexical meaning and innovation. Over 5000 items of notes can be classified into three groups: titles, quotation and evidence. The mutual reference between items is quite universal.
