A Study of YUAN Zhen’s and BAI Ju-yi’s Comments on Li Bai’s Poems:An Analysisof Two Issues

YUAN Zhen and BAI Ju-yi took negative attitudes towards the ideological content and artistic form of Li Bai’s poems. And They had made an attempt to affirm themselves, while many modern scholars hold an opposite opinion, tacitly admitting that LI Bai’s Metrical poems are inferior to those of DU Fu and LI Bai’s other poems and are short of elegancy and metaphor. Similarly, many modern comments on YUAN’s and BAI’s discussion are biased.
