A Study of An Analysis of Songs of Chu by LI Se

An Analysis of Songs of Chu by famous scholar LI Se of Korean Dynasty is one of few books on songs and lyrics. LI believed that the “lyric” was from “fu” ——one of six styles of A Book of Songs. This “fu” later developed into the style of Chu lyrics, which in turn evolved into Han lyrics. As to the classification of songs and lyrics, he held that the two were different styles and meanwhile he inherited the view of Selected Works. And he failed to see the relation between songs and Chu lyrics, hence he followed the XIAO Tong’s mistakes.
