The Features, the Value of Moral Education and the Fulfilling Path of Mottos of Undergraduate Normal Universities

    • As an important cultural form in universities, university mottos embody profuse values of moral education and are significant resources for achieving the fundamental educational task of fostering virtue through education. The mottos of undergraduate normal universities (UNN) are characterized by concise expression, balanced and rhythmic phrases, a focus on fostering virtue, and a blend of ancient and modern sources. These mottos represent six aspects of moral education value of the professional ethos of educators. The six aspects are ideals and beliefs, moral integrity, educational wisdom, diligent attitudes, benevolent hearts, and the pursuit of promoting the Way in education. In order to fulfil the value of moral education of these mottos, UNN should carefully select and refine the text. More importantly, UNN rationally interpretate and promote connotations of the mottos, and conduct consistent practice under the guidance by the mottos.
