Meta-analysics of the Effects of Rrogressive Resistance Training on the Lower Limbs Muscle Strength and Mobility in the Elderly

    • To evaluate the effects of progressive resistance training on the lower limbs muscle strength and mobility of the elderly by meta-analysis.Data was taken from databases of MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science.Literature was selected according to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria.Randomized controlled experiments were done to investigate the effect of progressive resistance training on the lower limbs muscle strength and mobility of the elderly. The relevant data was collected and analyzed by Revman5.2.36 articles involving 1172 subjects were finally included in this research.Meta-analyses revealed that the PRT group had a better performance in terms of the muscle strength of lower limbs, gait speed, timed up-and-go test and timed chair rise than the controlled group;and in six-minute walk, the PRT group did a better job yet without much statistical significance.Subgroup analysis showed that the high-intensity training of more than 12 weeks had a significant treatment effect on the enhancing of lower limb muscle strength.Conclusion:2-3 times of 70%-80%1 RMPRT each week lasting for over 12 weeks can significantly enhance the lower limbs muscle strength and mobility of the elderly, thus an effective means to retard progressive deterioration of the muscle.
