Abstract
To explore the effect of personality on the daily emotion of the elderly people and the mediation effect of emotion regulation upon their personality and daily emotion.By adopting Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) , Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) , Positive Affection and Negative Affection Scale (PNANS) , a door-to-door survey was conducted to investigate 271 people above the age of 60, and the data was subjected to a multi-group comparison analysis by structural equations.The results showed that, there is no significant gender differences in terms of the elderly people’s neuroticism, extroversion, cognitive reappraisal, expression inhibition, positive and negative daily affection experience;Structural equation model analysis found that neuroticism can significantly predict negative emotion, and extroversion can significantly predict positive emotion;multi-group comparison of structural equations showed that the mediation effect of cognitive reappraisal was significant on the relationship of neuroticism & extroversion and negative emotion for the female elderly, but insignificant for the male elderly.The study suggests that the mediation effect of emotion regulation on the relationship between personality and emotion in different genders is different, and cognitive reappraisal is more significant for the elderly female.
