A Multidimensional Appreciation of ZHANG Daqian’s Elegant Songs: An Album of Beautiful Grass, Fruit and Trees

In his late years, ZHANG Daqian elaborately created Elegant Songs: An Album of Beautiful Grass, Fruit
and Trees. This paper has made an analysis of it from five aspects: combination between poems/ articles and paintings and seals in the album, appreciation of aesthetic paintings, changes from the album pages to carrier of monthly calendar, ZHANG Daqian’s complex of grass and flower, and the relation between Elegant Songs and Chinese classic works. It mainly takes the artistic analysis on the paintings assisted by the carding of Chinese culture background in an attempt to serve as a spur for fur- ther research of ZHANG Daqian.
