A Study of ZHANG Daqian’s Odes to Flowers

    • Odes to flowers are an important part of ZHANG Daqian’s poems and have their protruding status in his poetry. However, they have drawn inadequate attention from the academic circle. So far, people have not found any study of all these odes. Through the systematic research of these poems, the author of this paper has found that both types and amount of these poems have no competitors in Chinese poetry circle. Secondly, the aesthetic sceneries are multi-dimensional, such as the catching of blossom state, pouring his feelings through flowers, and comparing flowers to his morality. Thirdly, the causes of composing these poems include close relationship between the flowers and his life, perfect combination between bird-and-flower paintings and odes to flowers and the necessity of the poet’s soul perching.
