On the Tragic Females under the LU Xun's Pen: A Case Study of Mistress Xianglin

The novels Blessings and Grieve over the Deceasedby LU Xun are the excellent works which reflect the tragic fate of females in the period of May 4^th Movement. Among these females, Mistress Xianglin and Zijun are symbolic. They represent respectively the females of the old society and the new young women who just woke up. With Mistress Xianglin and Zijun as examples, this paper has made an analysis on the Mistress Xianglin's dilemma of death circulation and social background of fear of incurring gossip, and the helplessness of Zijun when she woke up from her dream in attempt to reveal the females' tragedies under LU Xun's pen and their roots.
