On Artistic Absorption from Ming and Qing Novels by WANGAn-yi's Tianxiang

    • WANG An-yi's work Tianxiang is deeply influenced by the novels of Ming and Qing Dynasties and can be called a triumph for its returning to the classics. The writer is good at sublimating the unusual thinking with the figures in the classic novels as the media, and creating the new and unique context and atmosphere. She has described the marketplaces and secular world with elegant language, which has reflected the warmth and fragrance of people's emotion. Similar to A Dream of Red Mansions, the novel Tianxiang has created a pure and lovely kingdom of females, which is, however, different from Grand View Garden. This has shown the creative spirit and progressive awareness in the new time. There are some flaws while she absorbs the classic art. The writer's artistic personality and hobbies have kept her from drawing artistic essence from Ming and Qing novels. This, to some extent, has led to the loss of the artistic shock power which she should have deserved.
