On the 1997-2011 Energy Eco-footprint and A Dynamic VariationEvaluation of Its Efficiency in the Province of Sichuan

    • By use of the research method of energy eco-footprint that is based on the energy eco-footprint model, an analysis was made of the energy ecological footprint from 1997 to 2011 and its dynamic variation features of efficiency. The results showed: the per capita energy eco-footprint and the output of energy eco-footprint are of an ascending trend, while the energy eco-footprint intensity is of a descending trend, of which the per capita energy eco-footprint and the energy eco-footprint intensity are both lower than the average national level, yet the output value of energy eco-footprint here is higher than the national average level, which owes much to the large proportion of clean energy consumption like the consumption of natural gas and hydropower in the overall energy consumption structure. In spite of this, the per capita energy eco-footprint in Sichuan still exceeds the forest ecosystem carrying capacity, which results in the huge ecological deficit at the time of our study and there exists a possibility of becoming even worse. In order to reverse such a trend, the local government shall have to do a great job in restructuring its industries and transforming its means of energy use and stepping up efforts in energy conservation and emission reduction.
