Abstract:
In order to investigate the effects of grandparenting experiences on self-consciousness of secondary school students, the Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale was applied on 636 students with different parenting experiences, who are from 6 secondary schools in the city of Yibin. Results indicated that, except the popularity factor score, the total score and the sub-scale scores of self-consciousness of secondary school students with grandparenting experiences were lower than those of the control groups, but the differences were not statistically significant; intellectual and school status score, and, happiness and satisfaction factor score of girls from grand-parenting groups were significantly lower than those of the girls from the control groups, indicating that grand-parenting has a continuous negative influence on the development of an individual's self-consciousness, and the influence on girls should be particularly on our lookout
