Abstract:
The rural scene has been described five times in A Dream of Red Mansions, and such description plays an important role. Such trifle narration as the opening, the narration with the driving force absent behind the main story, the odd perspective due to the strangers in and out the story, and the calm description of hopping and busy scenes, these four are the unique functional narrative features. As an important part of novel space, the rural description should be noteworthy and reevaluated in its aesthetics, narratology and the author’s state of mind.
