Abstract: A preliminary study was made into the gardens in memory of famous historical figures in western Sichuan from the perspective of their gardening art. Representative gardens like Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage, Zhuge Liang Memorial Hall, and the River view Pagoda in Chengdu, Xinfan East Lake and the Yan Painting Pond in Chongqing are subjected to an all round study in terms of their layouts, botanic schemes and architectural features so as to find out some enlightenments from their unique gardening art, which is certainly of great significance for the protection and full utilization of scenic spots and places of historic and cultural interests and the tourism development in western Sichuan as well.
