Abstract: The grammaticalization of “gen” is an expanding process of its functions. The word has undergone the grammaticalized chain of “noun accompanying verb-accompanying preposition-coordinative conjunction”. Its grammaticalization began from ancient times and finished in about Qing Dynasty. In this process, its syntactic position and reanalysis had played an important role.
