    Inheritance and Innovation in ZHENG Zhenduo’s Popular Literature Studies

    • 摘要: 郑振铎的中国俗文学研究,兼具承继与开创的双重性质。他批判性地吸纳了王国维、鲁迅与胡适的学术成果:既推重《宋元戏曲史》的开创性并加以引证与补正,又在与鲁迅的交游中深化小说研究,彼此启发,互有订补,更继承了胡适的实证方法,注重考据与归纳。在此基础上,郑振铎系统地提出了"俗文学中心论",将俗文学提升至文学史主干地位,并着力开拓了讲唱文学这一新兴领域,为此后的研究提供了清晰的范式,并指明了方向。

       

      Abstract: ZHENG Zhenduo’s research on Chinese popular literature embodies a dual character of inheritance and innovation. ZHENG critically engaged with the scholarly achievements of WANG Guowei, LU Xun, and HU Shi. He not only recognized the groundbreaking significance of Songyuan Xiqu Shi (History of Drama in Song and Yuan Dynasties), expanding upon its findings with his own evidence and corrections. Moreover, he enhanced his study of fictions through intellectual exchanges with Lu- relationship marked by mutual inspiration and reciprocal refinements. Furthermore, he inherited HU’s empiricist methodology, emphasizing textual criticism and inductive reasoning. Building upon this foundation, ZHENG systematically proposed the centrality of popular literature. As a result, this type of literature is elevated to a mainstream position in literary history. He also dedicated considerable effort to pioneering the study of tell-and-sing literature as an emerging field. In doing so, he established a clear paradigm and direction for subsequent research.
