Abstract:
There is a wealth of illustrations of folklore in English textbooks for junior high school students published by the People’s Education Press. The illustrations vividly showcase the folk art, traditional customs, and classic literature of the Chinese nation through their profound cultural heritage and rich connotations. They also serve as a vital role of teaching. The illustrations thus serve to promote cultural heritage, strengthen patriotic sentiment, and cultivate moral development. In classroom teaching, strategies are employed, such as activating students’ visual associations, integrating cultural contexts, and utilizing illustrations for imaginative elaboration. These strategies aim to interpret the cultural significance of folk lore illustrations and reconstruct them for pedagogical purposes, while also optimizing visual design. This approach not only enhances students’ cultural identity and linguistic competence but also guides them to perceive the national spirit and understand traditional Chinese wisdom from a cross-cultural perspective. Consequently, it inspires cultural confidence and patriotic sentiment of the younger generation ultimately empowering them to contribute their vigor to preserving and perpetuating China’s outstanding folklore.
