    The Educational Value and Implementation Strategies of Fine Chinese Folklore Illustrations in English Textbooks by the People’s Education Press for Junior High School Students

    • 摘要: 人教版初中英语教材中收录了众多民俗文化类插图,它们不仅以深厚的文化底蕴和丰富的思想内涵生动展现了中华民族的民间艺术、传统风俗和经典文学,还巧妙地将文化传承、家国情怀和道德涵养融入语言教学之中,凸显出独特的教育价值。在课堂教学中,通过激活插图联想、统整文化内容和巧用插图补白等策略,对民俗文化插图进行意蕴解读和教学重构,既有助于学生增强文化认同和提升语言能力,也有助于引导他们在跨文化视野中感悟民族精神、理解传统智慧,进而激发他们的文化自信和爱国情感,最终为传承中华民族优秀民俗文化注入青春力量。

       

      Abstract: There is a wealth of illustrations of folklore in English textbooks for junior high school students published by the People’s Education Press. The illustrations vividly showcase the folk art, traditional customs, and classic literature of the Chinese nation through their profound cultural heritage and rich connotations. They also serve as a vital role of teaching. The illustrations thus serve to promote cultural heritage, strengthen patriotic sentiment, and cultivate moral development. In classroom teaching, strategies are employed, such as activating students’ visual associations, integrating cultural contexts, and utilizing illustrations for imaginative elaboration. These strategies aim to interpret the cultural significance of folk lore illustrations and reconstruct them for pedagogical purposes, while also optimizing visual design. This approach not only enhances students’ cultural identity and linguistic competence but also guides them to perceive the national spirit and understand traditional Chinese wisdom from a cross-cultural perspective. Consequently, it inspires cultural confidence and patriotic sentiment of the younger generation ultimately empowering them to contribute their vigor to preserving and perpetuating China’s outstanding folklore.
