Abstract:
The educator ethos is deeply rooted in China’s 5,000-year traditional culture of teaching ethics while embodying the accumulated wisdom of frontline educators. This ethos guides teachers’ professional development by focusing on three practical dimensions. Specifically, it involves facilitating teachers’ role transformation, advancing the construction of an education powerhouse, and fostering a social climate of respect for teaching. Its concrete manifestations include six key aspects as follows: strengthening teachers’ ideals and beliefs, cultivating moral integrity, restructuring pedagogical approaches, consolidating core competencies, nurturing professional commitment, and establishing life values. In the future, this ethos should serve as a guiding framework for teachers’ professional development. To this end, it entails strengthening moral and professional standards, improving institutional safeguards, and optimizing training systems to cultivate a high-quality teaching workforce.
