Abstract:
HEIDEGGER reconstructs the relationship between art and history in his
The Origin of the Work of Art. He proposed that art is, in the essential sense, history, which subverts the metaphysical framework of traditional historical philosophy. He argues that history is not merely a sequence of pre-existing events but emerges through the revelation of the truth (aletheia) of beings as disclosed by works of art. Art is regarded as an event where truth sets itself into the work, and manifests the essence of history alongside its phenomena through the dual movements of establishing the world (welt) and setting up the earth (erde).
