Abstract:
The term,
Ci Ke (assassin), originally referred to (
ke) individuals who (
ci) carried weapons for covert killings. In modern Chinese,
Ci Ke of ice cream is trendy words in which the term significantly deviates from its original meaning. As a result, a series of other usages are derived from the trendy words, such as calorie
Ci Ke,
Ci Ke of Sichuan pepper, and stationery
Ci Ke. The new meanings of
Ci Ke can be summarized into three categories: 1) a type of game character; 2) unexpectedly expensive goods; 3) things or events that unexpectedly affect the patient. Additionally, the semantic evolution of
Ci Ke primarily occurs through metaphorical mechanisms. During this process, the original collocational range of the term has gradually been expanded so that a tendency towards semantic generalization comes into being.
