Abstract: As a famous scholar in the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Du Jun made comments only on his friend’s Li Yu’s novel collection.Their cooperation stood for the timely and special relationship between creation and comments in the history of ancient vernacular novels.Du mainly made the main notes and commentaries at the top of a page or at the end of a chapter.Among all notes and commentaries in ancient novels, they were quite systematic but rare.Their theoretical value mainly lies in the summary of Li Yu’s awareness of“structure”, novels’ construction, conclusion of creation techniques and cognition of the novels’ practical functions.
