Abstract: Through the profound interpretation of a“comment of Zhiyan Studio” (shortened as“Zhi Comment”) in the existent codex of A Dream of Red Mansions, this paper has confirmed the special geographical information implied in it.On this basis, it has made a comprehensive study of the relevant information in both the whole novel and the Zhi Comments.It is shown that there exists the relevance and the common reference between them.Accordingly, on the basis of paying more attention to the textual research of the historical materials and text in studies of the Hongloumeng, the author of this paper has called for an overall study of Zhi Comments in this novel in various editions, re-understanding the important value of Zhi Comment in interpretation of A Dream of Red Mansions.On the basis of this study, the author has put forward the academic view of“verifying the content of A Dream of Red Mansions with Zhi Comment and nutual verification between the two”.
