Abstract: Both Rastignac and SUN Shaoping have written a motivational history with their life struggle in which the youths from the social bottom have brought their dreams into reality during the period of social reform. As a representative of rural educated youths, SUN Shaoping lives in the interface between countryside and city. He has ceaselessly transcended his own parochialism, which shows the pursuit for the self-realization of an ordinary youth from backvelder. In contrast, Rastignac is a shrewd, sophisticated and cunning young man of declining aristocrat. He is just like a fish in water and has been promoted steadily in the uppertendom. However, he has gradually degenerated into a bourgeoisie careerist. Both the young men and their life struggle can be compared. They share some similarities in social background and personal temperament. In spite of that, due to the cultural differences, we can find discrepancies between their struggle means, subjective horizon and altitudes toward love.
