Abstract:
The completion time of The Outlaws of the Marsh has been controversial in the academic circle. Due to lack of relevant historical document and limitation of various research methods, the author of this paper has started from the stories of these outlaws in various dynasties, especially the evolution of them and their political psychological state, and made a contrast among such stories of the late Southern Song, Yuan, and Ming Dynasties. He believes that the contradiction of the outlaws' resistance against as well as the dependence on the Government is just the basic features of such stories at the beginning of Ming Dynasty. Accordingly, the completion time of Outlaws of the March was probably in early Ming Dynasty. And the influential hypothesis in recent years that it was completed in Jiajing period may not be reliable.
