Abstract: In the literature of ancient China, the word “wangliang”(demons and monsters)was polysemic. The image connoted in the word had undergone evolution. At first, the image of “wangliang” was not so terrible, and it might refer to the things like beasts or shadow. However, in its evolution, it was influenced by shaping of god. It has gone through the process from god to demon, and finally to the present image of ghost and monster.
