Why Is There no Incantation to Remove the Tighting Hoop in A Journey to the West?

Abstract: The tighting hoop on the head of SUN Wu-kong was inspired by the hair appliances and implements of punishment. Neither Monk Tang, nor Guanyin, nor Tathagata has the incantation to remove it. And Sun has to rely on himself to get rid of the hoop. The incantation to remove the hoop is in fact the belief of self-reliance, and is similar to the fact that we need the man to solve the problem who has set it. The hoop is like the one on Xingzhe’s head in A Journey to the West Continued, and is primary to lead SUN’s status as a Buddha.
