Abstract:
The Great Learning is quite significant for reference to the construction of contemporary university spirits, of which “being aware of virtue” and “being close to citizens” correspond respectively to the contemporary university spirits “pursuing prominence” and “being brave to bear responsibility”. The former requires us to pursue the lofty spirit in teaching and academic research, either of moral or of knowledge; while the latter urges all teachers and students to have the scientific exploration spirit and to be qualified as citizens. In addition, they should have the strategic thinking, world-wide sight and the willing to bear responsibilities. And universities should actively serve our society, transform knowledge into the productive force, and contribute to the progress of our education. The two are mutually dependent, pursuing prominence and stop at nothing imperfect.
