Abstract: There exist disagreements concerning the birth year of XU Hun. Some scholars hold that he was born in the 7th year of Zhenyuan, while others argue that he was born in the 4th or 16th year of Zhenyuan. Through interpreting the two poems he sent to YIN Yao-fan, the poetry he composed when he traveled to Tianjingguan in the North and A Poem for My Friend in Luozhong in Autumn, and combining the relevant historical documents, the author of this paper has come to a new conclusion that XU was born in the 9th year of Zhenyuan. As for his death year, the author thinks that he died after the 13th year of Dazhong. According to the historical document, there was another person named XU Hun who was an official Yushi in the period of Xiantong. But he was not the poet XU Hun. Accordingly, Mr. LUO Shi-jin's view that XU Hun died in the 2nd year of Xiantong is not correct.
